Don't Trade Hinrich

The Bulls can't trade Kirk Hinrich.

I know this may come as a shock to lots of people but trading Kirk would be a very bad move. Over his seven year career he has had his ups and downs, lately more downs. During his first 4 years in the league his points per game increased each season while during the last 3 it has been a mixed bag.

But Kirk does all the things you need a role player to do. He does all the little things and based on the team's recent play since he came back from injury and was inserted into the starting lineup speaks for itself. The team is 13-6 since he returned which includes the game they lost vs Golden State which he missed due to the flu.

Most of the "experts" say the Bulls need to trade Kirk to clear cap space so they can make a run at 2 of the top free agents. I disagree because if you trade Kirk you are throwing this season out the window. Unless trading him brings back a potential star this team will not make the playoffs. Not only would be losing the starting shooting guard but also the backup point guard and unless DRose is going to play 48 minutes that means more playing time for Pargo and Hunter which scares me.

Also if they do trade him they will find themselves looking for the same type of player during the offseason. There are much better choices to trade away namely John Salmons.

Expect more trade talk in the next few weeks as we get closer to the Trade Deadline

Congrats..... To Derrick Rose for making his first all-star game. He is the first Bull to make the team since Michael Jordan during the 98 season

Coaching Moves..... Former Bulls assistant coach Del Harris reigned from the New Jersey Nets this week. News of him leaving the team actually started to leak during a game so it became big news after another loss for the Nets which was the 44th of the season. And in a surprise move today the Clippers have removed Mike Dunleavy from the bench but he will keep his GM spot. Clippers are currently 12th in the West and 7 games under 500 but they had just swept the Bulls for the season.

  1. I agree about Hinrich actually, you can't underestimate the importance of a solid role player and while they are not nearly the same players, it is similar to the importance of Steve Kerr back in the day in my opinion. Plus I think he is a scrappy player who isn't afraid to mix it up, a little emotion on the court is good at times.

  2. Exactly. For the perfect example look at the trade last year of Nocioni. He provided all the things the Bulls are lacking this year with a tough hard noise player with some size who will get under the other team's best player's skin. If that trade Kirk they will be in the same boat next season lacking everything he brings to the table
